Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS)

Introduction
IBPS, which stands for Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, is an organization which conducts exams to recruit candidates for various posts in Banks and several other institutes. It is mainly held for the recruitment of important roles like Clerical, Probationary Officer, Specialist Officer, and Management Trainee. It’s a computer-based exam and is commonly known as CWE (Common Written Examination).


Scope and Vacancies
More than 15 million candidates compete against each other for the recruitment by this exam. The number is increasing every year. It is estimated that Banks will have to recruit as many as 7.5 lakh candidates in the future. The banks for which the candidates are recruited include UCO Bank, Allahabad Bank, Central Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, IDBI Bank, etc. The Institute of Banking and Personnel Selection (IBPS) has released 3247 vacancies for the post of Probationary Officers for 2017.   



Age Criteria, Dates, and Eligibility
The forms for the examination are made available in the month of May or June and the exam is conducted in the month of September. It’s a common writer online based test and those who qualify the cut off are called for common interviews. Candidates giving the exam should have scored 60% and above marks in their graduation course from a government recognized University.
For 2017, the date for Prelims Online Exam is 18th Sept to 22nd Sept

Exam Pattern and Syllabus The Question paper consists of three sections containing 100 questions in total. The time provided to solve the paper is one hour.


It is advised to score at least 40% in each section to qualify the exam. The question paper consists of English Language section, Reasoning and Aptitude sections. While Quantitative Aptitude includes the topics like Average, Percentage, Time and work, Profit & Loss, etc, Reasoning tests the candidate’s knowledge of coding-decoding, pattern identification, arrangements and blood relations, etc. English comprehensions test the candidate’s vocabulary, grammar and error spotting skills.
